|---|
Taiwanese Mahjong uses an additive scoring method.
Tai
After a player says "Mahjong" (and it's confirmed they have a valid winning hand) their Tai are totaled.
Dealer's Privilege/Curse
Whenever East wins, they receive bonus Tai.
If East won by discard, the Discarder pays 1 extra Tai.
If East won by self-draw, each opponent pays 1 extra Tai.
However, when the Dealer discards the Winning Tile, they pay one bonus Tai to the winner.
When the Dealer repeats as Dealer again (East wins or it's a draw), 2 Tais are added as a bonus for each repetition.
The Payout
Using the following equation, the winning player calculates their Points.
C = Consecutive Dealer Wins. The +1 denotes "Dealer's Privilege/Curse".
Points = Tai + 2C+1
Then the winning player receives their payout from the opponents depending on how they won…
- Self-Draw: Each player pays the winner their Points.
- Discard: The discarder pays the winner their Points, the other two opponents pay nothing.
So, the winner gets Points x3 for a win by Self-Draw, but only Points x1 for a win by Discard.
