Chinese Classical: Overview Gameplay Scoring Penalties & Errors Resources

Penalties

Under no circumstances can these calls be withdrawn:

  • Discard

Change of Heart

  • If a player calls for a tile but can't meld the set or changes his mind he is penalized 100 points, which goes to the winner of the hand. In case of a draw the offender reclaims the penalty.

Erroneous Exposure

  • If a player intentionally displays tiles from any part of his hand or any other hand he forfeits the right to win the current hand.
  • If a tile is called for and tiles were exposed the player must take the discarded tile even if it results in a dead hand.

Erroneous Mahjong

  • If an erroneous mahjong is called the player's hand is dead.
  • If an erroneous mahjong is called and a player throws in his hand, the offending non-dealer pays 250 to the other non-dealers and 500 to the dealer. If the offending player is the dealer he pays 500 to each player.

Wrong Tile Count

  • A player with more than 13 or fewer than 13 tiles forfeits the right to win the current hand.

Miss Win

  • If a player fails to claim the tile which would complete his hand, he may not go out any subsequent, identical discard until his next turn.
