An example of a Pure Nine Gates. The blue tile is a 9-sided wait.

There are two "Impure" versions of the hand…

  1. No 9-Sided Wait: The 14-tile shape will include 1112345678999, but the pair was already in the hand.
  2. Non-Concealed: Some or all of the pattern was called.

An "No 9-Sided Wait" Impure Nine Gates is not only allowed, it's worth Yakuman. Some groups award Double Yakuman for a Pure Nine Gates.
