Racks

Mahjong racks

Racks are used to hold tiles in the hand (of course) and are generally made out of plastic or wood. They also double as level to straighten out the walls. Plastic racks commonly have pegs on the left hand side where chips can be placed. It is customary in American mahjong for all players to have racks. To be easily distinguished, player East often has a different colored rack.
